TABO MONASTERY'S RESPONSIBILITIES

Tabo Monastery (The Institute of Studies in Buddhist Philosophy and Tribal Cultural Society Tabo) is registered as a charitable society under Indian law. (Society registration number : LS-10/87)

As an integral part of the local community Tabo Monastery is actively involved in taking care of and seeking sponsorship support for various projects within and outside the monastery. The objectives are to improve the educational facilities and increase the cultural awareness of the local community, and to improve and maintain the study and application of Buddhist philosophy, language (Sanskrit, Tibetan, Bhoti) and art.

The Serkong School is a heart project of Tabo Monastery. The Indian Government provides Serkong School with approximately 60% of the on-going costs, the rest comes from student fees and donations to Tabo Monastery (or directly to the school).

The school has various building projects (new library, new assembly hall, new hostel for the boys and girls, medical dispensary building). Furniture, educational materials, medical supplies are also required for these building.

Tabo Monastery is required by Indian law to report all international donations and to use the money only for the project intended.

A SPECIAL APPEAL FOR THE SERKONG SCHOOL

We created the Serkong School in order to help support poorer students, by providing free room and board. The school presently has 310 students, but the old school building is need of renovation. The growing student population also needs an additional dormitory (hostel) building, and funding for these efforts is urgently needed. The total cost of the renovation and expansion projects is estimated to be 95.55 million Indian rupees (Rs 955.5 lacs). The institution has limited income, and the students' parents and guardians cannot afford to contribute much.

We therefore appeal to anyone interested in supporting this noble work people, companies and philathropists to kindly assist us through your donations. Your donations to the Institute are tax deductible under Section 35AC of India's Income Tax code (Reference: India Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue Vide Letter No. V-27011/11/2010-SO(NAT.COM) of July 2010)
